400th Post. 2011 Goals.
I think that mini goals are essential, but having long term goals really drives your life. Resolutions are overrated because most people set them and after the initial high of the new year wears off they are long forgotten. For me, my goals are lifestyle changes. When achieved they’ll give me instant gratification, but working towards achieving them will be/is just as rewarding. Some are of these...
: Just a little reminder about 2011 →
crossingtheasymptote:
Speaking from experience from over the past 3 years, remember to be patient and consistent when reaching your goals. Usually the beginning of the year is filled with motivation and determination and a whole lot of intention to get stuff done. Intention is great (it’s the first step to getting…

W6D1 Half Training - Outside Edition - Complete
I am not completely sure why this run got to me, but I think it had to do with being my first run outside in a LONG time, my new running gear and the fact that it was my first time ever running outside in winter elements (it wasn’t snowing today, but there is still a lot of yuckiness on the ground from the Sunday - Tuesday storm).
First for the logistics: 5.94 miles in 1:20:48. It was...
Eeeek, can't wait for tomorrow!
Our office is closing early and I have big plans to try out my new outside cold weather running gear! I went to the store yesterday and bought under armour tights, shirt and hood/face mask. Even got some tractions/spikes for my sneakers (since here in Maine we have about 2’ of snow on the ground I’ll have to battle). Packing my bag tonight in anticipation for the big day!

tightenthebelt asked: Thanks for the nice compliment Heidi! Keep up the good work! I'm gonna try to run a half marathon as well!

Okay… I need help…
I’ve only used mine twice. I had to buy a shoe pouch because I don’t have the special shoes. The first time I used it, perfect! For some reason on my run yesterday it stopped calculating my distance and pace. I have a theory as to why… the treadmills at the gym stop after 60 minutes so I have to hop off and restart it. I didn’t push...
Reblog if BenDoeslife somehow inspired you to...
My story is the same. My journey started 6/15/09. I learned of Ben when someone posted his video on facebook. I went to his tumblr and read the entire thing start to finish and followed for weeks. I got irritated that I couldn’t “like” and decided it was time to start my own. So, yes, it is because of him that I’m here.
I’ll be forever grateful because I have...
W5D3 Half Training
Just happened…. 9.49 9.54 miles. 110 minutes (which includes 5 minute warm up & 5 minute cool down). On a treadmill.
I’m gonna go die now.
Edit: Corrected miles. It’s not much, but hey I earned those extra partial tenths (and… it puts me over 9.5!)!
foronemoreinch asked: Thanks!! That last "Free Your Mind" left me reeling too. I still can't decide which I would pick. Keeping old memories or making new ones! Those are some good questions!! :)
Tumblr Tuesday
I’ve known who I want to pick for a week now so I’m getting it out of the way!
My recommendation goes to, Nida (foronemoreinch). She’s been such a big supporter of my journey. Her messages and comments leave me smiling. She’s progressed amazingly with her running and recently completed her first 10K. I love her “free your mind” posts. They really make me...
Hard Truths, Harsh Reality!
Yup, it’s WIM. Another suck edition.
I know I’ve been in a funk. I’ve written about it. I haven’t been eating well. I haven’t been getting my workouts in. This not only effects my spirits, it effects my weigh-ins. IMMENSELY! The scale, which I currently hate (even though it isn’t the scales fault), says I gained 3.7 lbs. From 132.1 to 135.8. How is...
School
Two B’s. Those are my grades for the semester! I’ll take it!
I haven’t really talked about schooling much because I’m more of a fitblr, but one of the purposes of my blog is to give me an outlet to post things that relate to becoming a happy and healthy Heidi. There is so much more to me, to happiness, and to positive health than just diet and exercise (fitness). My...
So much on my mind!
Not even sure where to begin. I’ve been thinking a lot about 2010 and what 2011 holds for me. Where I’ve been. How far I’ve come. Where I want still want to go. My successes. My failures. My strengths. My weaknesses. I know that the year isn’t over yet, but it is rapidly coming to a close and I can’t imagine much changing much in the next week (except adding...
karengetsgoing asked: Hi Heidi! The Nooks look so cool. :) Congrats!
The book is titled, "Run Like a Mother: How to Get Moving---and Not Lose Your Family, Job, or Sanity" by Sarah Bowen Shea and Dimity McDowell. I don't know if the Nook has free ebooks but I downloaded this one for free from the Amazon website.
I *highlyhighlyhighly* recommend it. It's a very simple,...

How 2 Run Fast: "A Runner's High" Wins Video... →
Love this video! It totally gave me the chills. It’s worth the watch!
how2runfast:
Getty Images recently announced that the “Grand Prix” winner of its annual ‘Mishmash’ creative challenge was Ben Redmond for his video “A Runner’s High”.
The Mishmash challenge offered entrants the opportunity to create their own short story or video art using Getty Images’ extensive…
foronemoreinch asked: That is so weird. I have a fear of open water. So rivers, lakes and the ocean. Out. I can go in, if there's a lot of people with me and if I can see my own feet. Once we went out on a banana boat, got thrown in the water and had to wait for the boat to pick us up and I was completely scared something was going to drag me under water.
dianalivingright asked: What have I been doing with what. Where have I been hiding because I haven't been posting? Or what day have I been weighing in? Or i don't know what else lol
Week 5 Day 2 (tempo) of Half Training is DONE!
It started out VERY rough. I had a side stitch almost immediately. Ugh. I pushed through and by end I had found my groove and was fine. The last five minutes I was ready to be done. I was going 6.0 and really tempted to slow it down, but I didn’t. It defeats the whole purpose of tempo (increasing the speed as you go)… though I often end up slowing down at the end anyway. ...

My recommendation this week goes to Ginger of gingerdoeslife. She goes to the Y to stay active and is a runner. But beyond all that health stuff, most importantly, she’s human. She checked in on me this week to see how I was doing because I had been rather quiet and not feeling very motivational. She helped me realize that there are people out there that like to read about my journey and...
How 2 Run Fast: 10 Things to Think About When... →
Something similar to this was in the last Runners World magazine. I’m reblogging because I might WILL run a marathon someday!
how2runfast:
If you are thinking about running your first marathon, there are several things to consider when choosing which race to run.
Time of Year - You should pick a date range that is at least 4-6 months out and during a time of year when the temperatures...
WIM - Suck Edition!
I knew it would. I’ve been addicted to m&m’s anything chocolate this entire shark week. Gain of 2.3 lbs. I’m not letting it get me down though. Two rounds of 400+ calorie elliptical burns tonight. More burn tomorrow (hopefully during a run if the weather clears up). Next week I’d like better results. Christmas is in the mix so we’ll see….
LW:...
I’m an elliptical machine tonight. Snow and ice may have kept me in, but it’s not slowing me down! Round 2 is in process!
pmonahan asked: You could run the bleacher steps over at the football field on Alpine St. Or is there a park with a large set of stairs? Parking garage? Stairs down to the lake or river. Somewhere there are stairs.
Alright folks, it's time!
… time for what??? To WTFU! It’s a new day. It’s a new week. Ready, set, GO!!!!!!!!!!
Holidays completely screwing up anyone else?
I can’t seem to accomplish anything fitness related these days. No matter what I set my mind to. Two days ago I vowed to get back to healthy eating and running/shredding/exercising, etc. Me = FAIL! I spent the entire weekend shopping, cleaning, baking holiday goodies, wrapping, running the kids around, etc. As much as I’ve wanted to get the gym or run outside I haven’t gone...
Tomorrow
Kickin’ it back into high gear. Now that finals are DONE and hubby is HOME I need to get my butt back to the gym and running. No more excuses! WIM is NOT going to be pretty. No exercise since Tuesday and shark week is catching up with me…
H
Not fitness related, but definitely HAPPY worthy
Finals are DONE!!!! Semester is OVER!!!!
mollierunsherbunsoff asked: You're so sweet :) I'm sorry you're not feeling like yourself :( I've had a bitchy grumpy pissy week myself, and I have no idea why!! Hope you've started to feel better though. And congrats on officially committing to the half! Even though we'll be about 2000 miles apart, we'll be running together that day!

This just happened! It’s now OFFICIALLY official!
My day just got brighter =)

Warning: Non-motivating rant post...
I am just not “me” these last couple days. I’m an emotional wreck. I mean like full fledged tears, yelling, swearing, pissy, whiney, moaning and groaning, irritable bear of a mess. It started out as pms x 100, but today it officially turned into shark week x 1000. Ugh, even I’m hating myself right now, no wonder everyone else thinks I’m a crabby bitch!

@fit-tastic
I couldn’t find your ask. I’m training for the “Half at the Hamptons”. It’s in Hampton, NH on 2.20.11!
Week 5 Day 1 Half Marathon Training Complete
7 intervals. I rocked it. The last one was SUPER tough though. 5.95 miles in 70 minutes. I’m spent.
Now to hit the shower!

My recommendation today goes to karengetsgoing. She’s kicking ass and taking names at the C25K program. She is on week 8, has made amazing progress and I’m so proud of her.

30DS Day 10 is done.
Know what that means… tomorrow starts LEVEL 2! I’m definitely ready for the change. I can notice the improvement all over and my body will appreciate the switch up.
On another note, I just had WIM. FAIL. I NEVER weigh in early. I became too obsessed with it when I first started losing weight. Yesterday before getting in the shower I stepped on the scale. I got an unbelieveable...
