About Me

April 2009 - Me and hubby.
This is my Journey. A (recently turned) 30 year old Maine girl gets healthy!
On June 15, 2009 I decided it was “me time” and i went on a weight loss journey. I call it a journey because that is truly what it was, and still is. It was a spur of the moment decision to walk down the path I chosel It was a Monday. I was sitting on the couch thinking about the food I had consumed that day and thought, “Geesh, I think I’ve eaten pretty well today. I should follow the weight watchers plan.” I didn’t actually join WW, but I knew how to figure out how many points I was allowed and had a little booklet with some food points in it. The rest I used free onine sites. It was 9:40PM. I weighed myself. 210 lbs (at 5’1 I must add…). I created an excel spreadsheet to track all my food and points. I created another to track my weight and away I went. Since that date I have lost about 80 lbs. It hasn’t been easy, but it has definitely been worth it. I had no real goal for myself, but since then I decided anywhere between a weight of 125-135 is good for me. If anyone had asked me back in June 2009 if i’d ever get to this weight range I’d have laughed at them. I’d have laughed at 150 even! I haven’t been my current weight since high school (if even then). I’m proud of how far I’ve come, but my work and journey are not nearly done.
In October 2009 I did the C25K program. It truly works and I recommend it to anyone that is just starting to run or is thinking about it. I ran my very first 5K on Mothers Day 2010. I came home and signed up for a couple more. My goal was to do a 10K before the end of the year. One year later, in October 2010 I ran my first 10K. It was an amazing feeling to finish and I decided I wanted my goal for 2011 to be finishing a half marathon. No speed or time requirements. Just finish. I started my training for this at the end of October 2010. I ran my first half marathon in February 2011. Then another in May and a third in September. I made a decision somewhere along the way to venture into the world of marathons and completed my first (and only so far) on 10/2/11. The Maine Marathon. Every single run is an adventure.
2011 was my year for running. In 2012 I’m mixing it up. 2012 is my year for adventure and facing my fears. I am going to try my hand at triathlons. Maybe one day I’ll work my way up to half or full ironman status. For now, sprint triathlons with an occasional foot race here and there (my first being The Airport Challenge (14.1 miles). I’m also planning on doing an adventure 5k, the Tough Mountain Challenge. It’s still early in the year so who knows what 2012 will truly bring. I can’t wait to find out.
Follow my journey of weight loss, fitness, running and adventures. Away we go!
